What is friendMonkey??

friendMonkey is a social networking site. Basically, it's a place where you can create a custom profile, interact with your friends, and meet new people.

Does it cost anything?

No! friendMonkey is 100% free to use. We make money from advertising. At some point premium services may be offered for a small fee, but we won't take away features and start charging members. Put away the credit card and enjoy!

Getting Started
How do I sign up?

You can sign up from the main page or by clicking here. Simply fill in your desired user name, email, and how you heard about us. You will then be sent a confirmation email with your login info. It's that simple!

What if I didn't get my confirmation email?

Please be sure that you entered a valid email address. Also, check to make sure the message didn't go in your junk folder. Some email systems don't know how important friendmonkey mail is yet ;).
If you still didn't get your email, you can go back to the signup page and at the bottom you can resend your message. You can even switch the email address (friendmonkey knows when a user name is in a pre-signup status, and all info associated with it can still be switched). It might be a good idea to add admin@friendmonkey.com and/or the friendmonkey.com domain to your address book or safe list in your email client. If all else fails, try using a hotmail, yahoo, or gmail address.

After I get my confirmation email, what do I do?

Log in to the site from the main page or by clicking here and entering the username and automagically generated password included in your confirmation email.
When you log in for the first time, you will be asked to fill out a few details about yourself. The account info page will continue to show up at each login until it's filled out. Once completed, logging in will take you directly to your Control Panel. Feel free to change your password or anything else. Even your user name can be modified!
Once you've completed your account info, you are fully signed up. You can then head over to your Control Panel. See the other help sections for more info on what you can do from your Control Panel.

What is the Control Panel?

The Control Panel is like your home base where you can access most of the friendMonkey features and keep an eye on what's going on. There's a link to the Control Panel on the main menu at the top of each page. You are also taken there each time you log in.
In the upper portion of the Control Panel, you can access your Profile on the left, on the right you can view your friends, and between there is a menu containing important shortcuts to important areas of the site and your Profile.
Below, in the middle portion of the ControlPanel, you'll find info on who's viewed you (when enabled), who you've viewed, and who's been recently active in your area. Finally, the lower portion of the page shows bulletins that have been posted by your friends.
In addition, you will see notifications on your Control Panel from time to time on the left side below your image. This will notify you when you have new mail, friend requests, bulletins, new comments, etc. You can click on the red message, and it will take you directly to the related area of the site!

What's my Profile?

Your Profile is a customizable page that you can use to share information about yourself. You can use it to tell about yourself, your personality, and your background. You can share photos, post videos, write blog entries, share links, and much, much more. Your Profile is customizable... change the colors and background to fit your personality and style.

How do I upload a photo?

Go to your Control Panel. Then go to the My Images link on the Control Panel (between the default image and the friends area). Toward the bottom of the Manage Images screen, you'll see a "Browse..." button. Click it, find the image on your computer, and click Upload. You can also enter a caption (optional).

How do I edit, sort, or delete photos?

Go to your Control Panel. Then go to the My Images link on the Control Panel (between the default image and the friends area). You can do whatever you want to your photos from there by clicking the links below each photo. You'll also see a link on the page to "sort images".

How do I change my profile colors and background?

Go to your Control Panel. Then go to the Edit Profile link on the Control Panel (between the default image and the friends area). Click the multicolored link that says "edit profile colors".
To change your colors, click on any of the colored squares. You can change the color by clicking the box and choosing a color or you can enter colors more precicely by typing in the standard 6 digit Hex color code.
If you look toward the bottom of the page, you'll see a sample area where you can see what effect each change has. Once you're satisfied, just Save. You can then see what your profile looks like by using the "view my profile" link at the bottom of the page.
To change your background, just choose one from the dropdown toward the upper right portion of the screen. If you want to upload a custom background, choose Custom (Upload) which is the last option in the dropdown. Then Browse for your image, and it will be uploaded next time you click Save at the bottom of the screen. If your background doesn't seem to change, most likely it's because your browser is "caching" the image. In most cases, the image did change, and you'll see it when you go back to your profile or when you open a new browser window.
You can also select whether you want the background to be Tiled, Tiled Fixed (doesn't move), or Centered on the screen.
You can also control the transparency of your profile (so the background can show through) with the radio buttons above the background selecton dropdown.
NOTE: When you change your profile colors and background, it does not affect your Control Panel or other system screens.

How do I add someone to my friends list?

Make sure you're logged in. Then visit the person's profile who you want to add to your friends. In the Contact Box to at the top right of the profile, simply click "Add to Friends".

How do I sort or delete from my friends list?

Go to your Control Panel. Click "view/edit all" at the bottom of the Friends section in the top right portion of the Control Panel. Click "sort & edit friends" at the bottom of the Friends box. From here you can drag and drop to sort or you can click remove to remove people from your friends list.

How do approve friend requests or comments?

Make sure you're logged in, and go to your Mail. You can get there from the Control Panel or the top menu. From there, click "friends" on the menu on the lefthand side to view and take action on friend requests. You can also review or cancel requests you've sent by clicking "pending". In addition, if you require comment approval, a "comments" option will be available where you can view and take action on comment requests.

How do I post a bulletin?

Bulletins are postings that will show up on all of your friends' bulletin boards. Go to your Control Panel. At the bottom of the page, you'll see any recent bulletins from your friends. Just click the "post bulletin" link at the bottom to post one of your own.

How do I rate someone?

Make sure you're logged in. Then visit the person's profile who you want to rate. In the Contact Box to at the top right of the profile, simply click "Rate User".
You can also rate a person's profile when you're logged in by clicking your selection from 1 to 5 bananas in the floating rating bar on the left hand side of the screen.
